Today’s world is extremely stressful. I have been looking for ways to reduce my stress levels and know that yoga is excellent in this aspect. People who take up yoga reduce stress levels by as much as 40% regardless of the problems they are facing.

Stress levels are very high because of the demands that everyone makes on you and it is quite easy to lose it, if you don’t find an easy way to reduce your stress and anxiety levels.
Origins of yoga
The beginnings of Yoga were developed by the Indus-Sarasvati civilization in Northern India over 5,000 years ago. The word yoga was first mentioned in the oldest sacred texts, the Rig Veda. The Vedas were a collection of texts containing songs, mantras and rituals to be used by Brahmans, the Vedic priests.
Now very many people ask if yoga is a religion or based on religion. The fear is that if you practice yoga, either you have joined a new religion or a new cult. But this is not true. Yoga while used as a form of exercise or therapeutic activity isn’t religion.
In fact the BBC says “People say that yoga is Hindu, but “Hinduism” is a problematic term, coined by outsiders for everything they saw going on in India. Yoga stems from the Vedas – the Indian holy texts that were composed from around 1900BC. Besides yoga, three major religions came from those texts – Hinduism, Jainism and Buddhism.”
For this article, we aren’t really concerned about the religious aspects, even though people say that when you are doing yoga, you get really close to god, whatever your definition of god is.
Now, to be honest, I have been to three yoga 🧘♀️ sessions last year and I was just getting into the hang of pushing my body to its limits when the lockdowns began. Sadly, my very sensual escapades ended then. But lately I am getting back into it in my own home and I thought I would share what I have learned.
